Deep Thoughts by bfsooner

So, I'm sitting at my desk watching The Biggest Loser and drinking a bottle of grape Gatorade.  I has led me to reflect on my love of Gatorade.  It is one of my favorite beverages.  My love of Gatorade goes back to the late 1980s when I was a little soccer player.  After practice or a game, there was always a cold bottle of Gatorade waiting for me in a cooler on the sidelines.  It was usually the lemon-lime flavor or orange.  These two flavors have withstood the test of time.  I still find myself reaching for the yellow or orange bottles when I go to get Gatorade after a run.  But I have also learned to love the other flavors as well.  During high school, my favorite flavor was watermelon.  I think I was attracted as much to the pinkness of the liquid as I was to the taste.  And I'm not just a loyalist to Gatorade.  I love Powerade too.  My favorite item off the menu as Sonic is a Powerade slush.  The blue Powerade is my favorite!  Although I haven't seen All Sport on the shelves in years...their fruit punch flavor was my favorite.  There have been some newcomers to the scene.  Accelerade is one.  It's an acquired taste.  The protein in it makes it have a thicker consistency.  I really haven't quite acquired the taste for it yet.  Cytomax is another.  It's acceptable.  I had it on the course at RNR San Antonio.  The absolute worst is Ultima!  Sugar-free sports drinks are just wrong!!!  Hello?!?!  We need sugar...we need the glycogen.  I don't recommend Ultima...gross...gross...gross.  Well, there are my thoughts on Gatorade and its companions.

Good luck to the Oklahoma Sooner women tonight.  Wish I could watch you play, but my cheap a$$ doesn't have The Deuce.  I'll check your scores in the morning.

'Night ya'll.

Bullet and a Target - Citizen Cope

This week's song recommendation is Citizen Cope's "Bullet and A Target." I was first introduced to Citizen Cope when "Let the Drummer Kick" was used on So You Think You Can Dance. I couldn't get the song out of my head. It was so original. At that time, I could still listen to Launchcast at work, and pulled up his fan station. I was blown away. His sound and his lyrics are so unique. The first time I heard "Bullet and a Target" I fell in love. I ran out immediately and bought the album. Citizen Cope is a blend of rock, hip hop and reggae. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, one can definitely feel the diverse music in culture from that area come through in his music. While "Bullet and a Target" is my recommendation, I cannot claim that it is my favorite Citizen Cope song. It's like picking out a favorite crayon from the 64 count box. Among the amazing songs are "Sideways," "Brother Lee," and "Mandy." If you haven't ever heard him...give him a listen, you will not be disappointed. Speaking of disappointed, the Sooner basketball game was definitely a downer last night. But maybe this happened so the guys will have a break to get ready for the Big Dance. The Spring Game is coming up very soon...yea!!! My fantasy golf team is playing well, but I'm kicking myself for not picking Mickelson. Oh well...there's always next time.

Song Recommendation of the Week...

I am Sooner Born and Sooner Bred, and most people identify Oklahomans with country music, and rightly so.  We have blessed with the world with talent like Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunn, Carrie Underwood, and I could go on for days.  But we also have given the world some pretty amazing rock musicians.  In the 1990s during the birth of alternative rock, Tulsa had an amazing underground scene.  Some of the best alternative rock bands had their start somewhere in Tulsa.  If they weren't from Tulsa, then they played there often.  It was during this time that I was introduced to a band from Fort Worth, Texas, the Toadies.  I fell in love.  Their sound and their lyrics struck a chord with farm girl.  Still to this day, three of their songs occupy my top 25 playlist with one residing as the most played song on my beloved Zune.  What I love so much about the Toadies is that many of their songs have a backstory.  Possum Kingdom is about a ghost story associated with the Texas lake by the same name.  My favorite Toadies song was inspired by a story the band members saw about a guy stalking a girl in an East Texas town.  They named the song after this town...Tyler.  If you haven't ever heard the song, I highly recommend it.  I love running to it, singing to it, and dancing to it.  If I'm having a bad day, I crank in my car on my drive home.  Then I crank it through my headphones as I hit the asphalt.  I also do the same thing if I've had a great day.  It's just an amazing song!  I have many high school memories tied to this song, and to this band.  Rock on Toadies!!!

For the sports part of this blog, it is day 2 of Sooner spring ball...yea!!!  Boomer Sooner.

Noises

I'll be honest with you...I'm not a noise person.  Most noises annoy the crap out of me.  I hate the sound of gum being chewed, popped, cracked, etc.  I really don't want to listen to you eat.  Don't even get me started on ice.  But there are some sounds that I love.  They include football pads cracking together, basketball sneakers squeaking on a hardwood court, and basketball ball falling through a hoop.  Those are some of the most comforting noises to me.  I also like to hear the whoosh of a golf club right before it cracks against a ball.  That's cool too.  So, today I enjoyed the noises of my beloved Sooners beating the Raiders.  It was music to my ears.  Welcome back, Blake.  I hope this was a wake up call for the team, and they start getting ready for March...because it is tomorrow.  I love basketball.  Squeak on guys...squeak on...

Blog Post #3

I love running and I love music...the two go together quite nicely.  It lifts my spirits when a really cool song shuffles up during a tough part of my run.  Tonight it was "Ulysses" by Franz Ferdinand.  I fell in love with Franz Ferdinand back in 2004 with their first album.  I'm a big fan of the Brits, and their music is fun to move to.  Ulysses is no exception...can't wait to hear the rest of the album.  Hope it is as great as this one song.

On a sports note, I hope the Stars win tonight.  I could've gone to the game, but decided I needed to home and do some housework and homework.  Darn me for being so responsible.  It is the burden that I bear.  Also, I'm going to try to figure how to play fantasy golf...hope I do better at it, than I did at fantasy football.

Tired of being sick...

I'm at home for the 3rd day this year with an illness.  I hate being sick.  I picked up a stomach virus when I went home for a funeral.  Not fun.  I have slept all day today.  Not sure if I'm going to sleep tonight...oh well.

I love the cfb home page.  Pics of Sam Bradford and Blake Griffin...me likey.  I haven't read the article yet, but I did see it had something to do with them having concussions.  Not fun...not cool.  I hope Blake will come back just as strong as he did before the blow to his head.  I think OU has an excellent chance in the tournament, but is evident that we need Blake playing.  We'll see...we'll see...

About Points Please...
So, apparently I can increase my score by starting a blog. So...I am starting a blog. What will a blog about? Good question. This is a sports site, so I guess I need to throw in some sports stuff. I like football, especially college football. I start paying attention to college basketball just as soon as college football is over with. Additionally, I like golf. I hate baseball. Why does it have to be so boring? Ok, this is my first blog...I'll take my points please.
